What lies in the corners of the human mind will send shivers down your spine. There is a reason those unspeakable things are tucked away from our consciousness. Alt-pop singer-songwriter Sailing Stones (real name Jenny Lindfors) gathers up the terribly gruesome and tragic for her brooding and astonishingly frightful new song. Coated in blues-rock, “Don’t Tempt the Shadow” is ripe just in time for Halloween, and it’s lyrical two-ton weight might bear down onto your shoulders. “Baby, would you come on home / Watching you turn into stone as if by magic,” she sings. Her explorations of twisted psychology, based on observations of a dear friend who severely plummeted into delusion, are served on a hot, steaming platter. Her voice scalds the skin, too, and unnerving doesn’t begin to describe it.
“Don’t Tempt the Shadow” anchors Lindfors’ new album, Polymnia, expected in 2020.
