There is something truly astonishing about the Appalachian landscape. In the height of summer, dreamy greenery is spotted with apple-scented petals and an array of yellow-hewn daffodils that seem to ebb and flow as the ocean at high tide. An upbringing set at the foot of the Blue Ridges mountains in South Carolina, Americana driver Sam Burchfield picks up his acoustic guitar for a succulent stunner so oven-baked in Appalachian tradition you can probably taste it. “Running ’round, like water running free,” he sings. His brush strokes are so heavenly and divine that the earth opens up before your very eyes, and his reedy warble wraps you up in nothing but warmth and the aroma of a well-lived, well-earned life. His melodic tendencies are equally as overwhelming, washing your whole body in crystal clear bliss.
“Blue Ridge June” is lifted from his upcoming EP, Graveyard Flower, expected later this year.
