“I wish I were underwater,” gurlges Samuel Nicholson. Perhaps anything would be better than human connection, and his decision to discard friendships comes with a heavy price tag. The folk singer-songwriter feels his isolation like thorns into his side, and his wounds ooze and drip. With “Andy,” he strikes a sobering, moody moment as he wrestles with his loneliness. “Never again, never again, never again,” he barely screeches from his lungs. Nicholson’s voice is as whistling reeds swaying in a crisp autumn breeze, and as sorrowful as it all is, it may be for the best. Or so he considers.
“Andy” samples Nicholson’s new album, Missing Persons Report, expected later this year.
