Taste Test: Sawyer Fredericks finally admits he ‘Should’ve Known Better’
The indie folk firebrand seeks out the sun to heal his heart in a new video.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones.
Love is a gamble. You place your bets, hope for a win and leave the rest to chance. Sometimes, you hit the jackpot; other times, you strike a major blow and lose it all. Free-range folk firebrand Sawyer Fredericks, of The Voice Season 8 fame, is firmly planted in the latter category. On his scorching song “Should’ve Done Better,” the New York singer and songwriter lets out a deep-chested growl that makes mountains crumble down around him ⏤ such a fate might actually be better than having his heart ripped from his chest. But it’s already been sealed in the stars. “I know that you don’t love me / And never will,” he addresses the truth before letting every emotion pour out of his body. The accompanying visual, filmed on his family farm in upstate New York, gives him a moment to configure the exact emotional outcome of his personal revelations. Bathed in golden sunlight, with an equally-invigorating countryside dancing around him, he soon uncovers soothing pleasure to heal his broken heart.
“Should’ve Known Better” is ripped from his 2018 studio album, Hide Your Ghost.
