Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

Many people can relate to a time in their lives where it felt like everything was falling apart. This was very much Sciarra’s reality when she wrote “Dancing in the Dark”. Covid hit, her mother passed away from skin cancer, and Sciarra was diagnosed with cancer herself soon afterwards. Sciarra used a recently-discovered genre to express the desperation and destruction she was experiencing, and “Dancing in the Dark” was the result. With a slow ethereal sound, Sciarra plays into the dark and ominous elements of electro-pop expertly. Sciarra’s haunting vocals are the crowning jewel of the song, showing off her vocal range and control, as well as landing every emotional note. “Dancing in the dark/Where no one could find me/I drown the sirens/Before it all falls down”. In addition to being a song for everyone going through hard times, Sciarra is also using the profits to raise money for The American Cancer Society. A masterpiece of electro-pop backed by a good cause.
