“Oh, baby please, you’re such a tease,” Simon Lunche lures the listener forward. With a well-smoked vocal, only a soft rasp to his credit, he depicts a sensual escape. “Red Delicious” not only rushes the senses, lyrically, but works as an apt showcase of Lunche’s natural classic musicality that reaches far beyond his years. He sizzles somewhere between Billy Joel and John Mayer, pouring it on thick (because why not), and letting the melody and throwback piano bolster his presence. “Make it seem so sweet, so sweet, so sweet,” he sings. He caresses the lyrics with a supple energy, as though he’d been doing this for decades. He takes great care in never overcooking his performance; it’s sticky-sweet like, you guessed it, red delicious apples but has enough gravitas to endure.
