Ambition can get the best of you. When it comes to music, particularly of the experimental variety, less is often more. But in the case of indie-pop mover Spooky Wilson‘s “Need U,” the textures compliment each other in such a way that’s downright mesmerizing. He zip lines from bouncy electronica to cinematic power-pop and back again, and along the way, organic instruments smash into synthetic and blossoms into an outstanding display. At every turn, he ejects a left-hook right to the jawline, barreling you over, and you will not soon recover. That’s guaranteed.
