When relationships fracture and splinter, we, as deeply-flawed human beings, are inclined to focus on the words, feelings, and actions that sting the worst. But if we stop for a moment, we may uncover shimmering slivers of hope and truth. New blog favorite St. Lundi, a folksmith whose genre-bending is truly a marvel, mines the agonizing fallout of a relationship and processes the pain into that necessary realization. He bulldozes across the threshold, powering through into what was always right there before his eyes all along. “Can you break the silence / And tell me straight,” he sings. He sends his words up into the air as a flair streaming into the sky, leaving a crackling, smoky trail in its wake, but the remnants soon will fall back into the atmosphere. “I know it’s hard / I know it hurts / Hold on to heavy words,” he wails. In weathering those heavy, thorny words, the light will soon break the impenetrable silence.
“Heavy Words” is ripped from St. Lundi’s debut EP, of the same name, out everywhere now.
