Being in a relationship doesn’t mean you suffocate one another. There’s an independence you need to hang onto for a relationship to weather in the long run. Singer-songwriter St. Lundi (aka Archie Langley) embraces necessary distance in order to give his burgeoning new romance some breathing room. “Learn to Let Go” smooths out the wrinkles, its airiness imprinted with an unexpected heaviness. Langley’s warble is just as medicating, too. “It’s alright / Release the pressure / Don’t hold tight / We need to learn to let go,” he urges. He hunts down the valve, turning it as hard as he can, so not only will he be able to regain his footing but his lover, as well. It’s not an easy decision, as reflected in the song’s syrupy mix, but it’ll eventually be worth it.
“Learn to Let Go” samples St. Lundi’s debut EP, Heavy Words, arriving July 24.
