Taste Test: Stevie Wolf wallows in emotional ‘Confetti’
The singer-songwriter feels loneliness course through his whole body.

Stevie Wolf‘s brash penmanship is contagious. He infuses simple, sometimes jagged, melodies with a fang-toothed edge. “Confetti” is no different, perhaps more so. “Now you’re gone / And it feels like / Everything is so futile,” he spits from his teeth. The emotional barbell hurls from his chest bone, and the song’s skeletal structure feels both spacious and claustrophobic. He twists his heartstrings into threadbare braids, yet it’s never pretentious or ornate. His pain exists in the blackness life sometimes oozes, and his desperation informs his performance, right down to inflections on specific words. He’ll eventually move on, but for now, he needs to wallow.
“Confetti” kicks off his new EP, Chapped Lips, out everywhere now.
