“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil,” reads one of the most crucial, life-confirming verses of the Bible, found in the book of Psalms. Religious or not, sage wisdom can be extracted and applied like an ointment onto our ever-swollen wounds. We’re only humans, and we feel everything. Swedish folk duo Stranger Things ⏤ made of Gabriel Wingård and Anna Falk ⏤ rattle loose their minds to make sense of the darkness that presses down upon their shoulders. It’s overwhelming, but with their song “Say Something,” an urgently jovial toe-tapper that hopes to shine a spotlight in the deepest corners of consciousness, they then cut the shackles from their feet. “Win or lose, I was made for a call,” sings Falk, whose voice entices you out of your own seemingly unconquerable gloom. Triumphantly, their quest is fruitful beyond their wildest dreams, leaving the listening invigorated by the duo’s shockingly addictive charm.
“Say Something” is the pair’s second single of the year, coming on the heels of “Enemy” from February.
