Taste Test: Suhasini mourns the victims of the Covid-19 pandemic in ‘People Losing People’
Indian singer songwriter taps into the collective sorrow of the global community
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
This is a heavy and heartbreaking song. It pulls no punches and spares no tears, tapping into the deep sense of loss and anger that the pandemic has brought about. Suhasini combines her overlapping pleas with simple and slow piano chords to create a somber and contemplative atmosphere. “Weren’t they supposed to save me” is a constant refrain – a helpless cry to the authorities and the medical professionals that are supposed to safeguard us. The lyrics themselves are simple, but profound in their simplicity, spanning the emotions of loss. Denial, bargaining, blame, anger and sorrow and all themes, ebbing and flowing like the tide. Polished and professionally produced, this Indian indie singer/songwriter has a real talent for capturing raw emotion in a song. I’m excited to see what Suhasini does next.
