We can’t stop, won’t stop talking about the excellence of SUMif. Quite a mastermind, Steph Wells is known for fracturing pop styles through an electronica prism. On the heels of summer jam “Move Out,” Wells pulls back the reigns for a windswept moment of reflection. A muted, yet swirling, soundscape froths around a tangle of lyrics and emotions. “I’ve learned you can’t please everyone / Someone’s always hurting when it’s done / But I want to be the one you come home to,” she looks downward. Sadness pours from her veins, so much so recovery will surely be a long-haul, and Wells seem unable to possibly move out of such icky darkness.
Wells eyes her debut LP, tentatively expected later this year.
