There are some people that just can’t handle a heartbreak. Their fangs will poke out of cotton candy gums and latch deep into your neck. Originally conceived as a straight-laced Americana tune, Swamp Music Players‘ “Jezebel,” a collaboration with Sugar Parks, explores the mayhem that often results from a breakup. Blasts of ’80s neons and roaring electric guitars are plastered to the sides, and the listener rides a soaring sonic wave. It’s lo-fi retro-rock splash that’s strewn across a planetary backdrop. “The sight of such a pretty girl / You’ll surely place your bets” rings out like a siren call, decorative synthetics lacing up and shoving the listener into an endless time warp.
