Taste Test: Swimming with Bears just ‘Keep Smiling’

Working retail can drain your soul. Waves of entitled customers and rude remarks will most certainly push you over the edge. Of course, you can’t actually speak your mind… if you want to keep your job. So, you smile and nod and just keep it all from falling apart. Out of Austin, indie-rock band Swimming with Bears groove it out of their systems with their giddy-up new tune “Keep Smiling,” a funk-slathered anthem for all occasions. “No one cares ’cause life’s not fair,” frontman Joe Perry sings, plastering a pearly white grin across his face. The accompanying visual, drawn from Perry’s own experiences in food service, is appropriately set inside a sparkling neon-doused diner, whose cast of waiters and waitresses must contend with a smorgasbord of aggravating eaters. But they don’t let such agonizing work get under their skin. They dance, flip their hair and make the most out of the very worst.
