For many, there’s a volatile duality to life. You want to be alone, yet your sticky heartstrings become tangled in such a desire to love and be loved. It’s a dangerous and dark tug-of-war that perhaps may never have a conclusion, a childlike game we play with ourselves that seems it could destroy us. Indie-folk singer-songwriter telco (real name Michael Gilbride) records his own twisted version with a brutal and unsettling performance. “Say Hello” burrows into the brain, and its off-kilter tone sends chills vibrating along the backbone. “Loving no one is easy / But being alone is hard,” Gilbride knots these two desires into a threadbare mat. telco’s voice pierces and cuts the veins, so sharp it is.
“Say Hello” samples telco’s brand new EP, My Name is Not Kaiser, out everywhere now.
