Temme Scott‘s voice crackles like a campfire. A smokiness unfurls from her lungs, as evidenced by her new song “Softly.” A choir of tortured voices rings out behind her. It’s a backdrop that further elevates the emotional pulse of the sweeping ballad. “What if I don’t love you in the morning?” she ponders. “Feeling strange, and there’s no warning / I’m scared you already saw me.” Palpitating drums echo like ghosts with Scott wading chest-deep into waves of haunted waters. It’s an irresistibly killer performance.
