Separation anxiety is the pits. Even if a relationship has long burned out, there remains the unquenchable yearning to be tangled in their arms once again. Electronic producer simply known as The Aphotic buries his face in the sands of time, forever awash in his misery and loneliness. With “Around,” the Texas creator, whose voice is as porcelain smashing on concrete, nearly wallows in the dying embers of a relationship. He stands worlds apart now, but that ache pounds his ribs and rips open his chest. “You know, I’ve been missing, missing that sweet loving,” he coos, his lips barely parting but the emotion caramel and immovable. “I don’t know who I am…” his words escape him as matchstick residue, swirling in a desolate night sky. The mysterious fable-dweller offers up an emotionally-wrought performance ⏤ and his breakout is imminent.
