The cityscape gently hums. A car chirps amongst a glistening haze of other metallic noises, the concrete jungle rising in imposing pillars around every living creature. Pop-rock upstarts The Balcony ⏤ of lead singer Dom Hansford, Ryan Daley (guitar), Nathan Dennis (guitar), Mikey Knowles (bass) and Jordan Hunter (drums) ⏤ plop down upon the curb. Plunder is everywhere the light touches; their gazes are resolved yet reserved. But they make a bold and propulsive statement with their debut single. “By the Hand” is gilded in classic ’00s euphoria, combing contemporary pop-punk and irresistible radio rock in a misty spray. Hansford’s voice carries with it an unmistakable charm and drenches in the adventure that looms at their feet. “Reputation is dead,” he offers with a matter-of-fact gleam in his eye. It’s all about impressions, and the UK troupe certainly make a lasting one.
“By the Hand” anchors the band’s debut EP, expected everywhere November 8.
