Current pop music could use a healthy dose of glam-rock vitality. The ’70s sub-genre notably borrowed from various other strands of guitar-goosed electricity but incorporated extravagant costumes, hair styles and splashes of color. While current mainstream has certainly embraced such outlandish presentations, the grit remains absent at the core. Los Angeles upstart rock band The Bites, fronted by wolfish howler Jordan Tyler, showers the audience with their octane-fueled dynamo. The visual of “Don’t Love Me No More” is as fearlessly retro as you could possibly get; the camera whips around at a frenetic rate, the filter is granular and intimate, and Tyler’s showmanship is provocatively magnetizing. “Baby, baby, tell me you love me!” he chirps, eyeing the camera and soaking it in his superstar presence. It’s a brisk two minute, 50 second extravaganza that’s sure to pop your eyes from their sockets.
“Don’t Love Me No More” is ripped from the band’s debut album, Open Your Mouth, out everywhere now.
