Premiere: The Brothers Footman plead for a ‘Lil Mo’ Time’ in new video
The soul-pop quartet long for a few more minutes.
They say time flies when you’re having fun. It’s true, and it’s backed by a psychological concept psychologist and BBC columnist Claudia Hammond has dubbed the holiday paradox. As our brains imprint fresh new experiences, our minds perceive those moments as lasting longer than they actually did, and when we age, those memories then appear to have transpired far more rapidly. To put it simply, we are slaves to time, and there’s never enough to spend with our loved ones. It’s a bittersweet notion, and even knowing it’s happening, it can be a bit depressing. Soul-pop quartet The Brothers Footman yearn for just a “Lil Mo’ Time’ with a brand new song, their first for Victory Music Buzz, out this Friday.
Paired with a performance-built visual, premiering today, the song heaves with the rollicking tonality of classic soul, ala Earth, Wind & Fire and the Commodores, drenched in prominent acoustic guitars and voluptuous drum lines bouncing along in the background. “You got that fever,” the four-piece ⎯⎯ made up of Dikembe, Gerald, Micah and Joshua Footman ⎯⎯ swoon in tightly-wound harmony work. “I wish I could make time stop when I’m having with you,” they plead, a hook looped throughout the spinning production, polished but not detached, throwback but not foreign.
“[The song] is about not having enough time with our friends, family and loved ones. Life is a rat race, and we just need more time,” the band tells B-Sides & Badlands about the track, which was insightfully “inspired by life and the challeges it presents,” as they recount. From the feverish drip of rhythms, often invigorating and puncturing the eardrums, to the band’s aching pleas to cherish each fleeting second, the song just might get you to dance away those worries. It’s wildly addicting and sets the stage for an explosive career on the horizon.
“Lil Mo’ Time” follows the band’s 2017 single, the equally-unforgettable “Clear Country Sky,” which became somewhat of an underground viral hit last summer.
