Taste Test: The Deathray Davies zoom off into the cosmos with ‘Oh Stars’
The indie band wind up for their long-awaited comeback.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
If the last year has taught us anything, it’s how fragile human existence really is. We’ve all guilty of taking even the trivial moments for granted, from enjoying a nice cup of coffee on the porch to lingering a bit longer in a hot, steamy shower. Those moments are what make us feel truly alive. Gearing up for their long-awaited comeback, indie band The Deathray Davies, whose successes in the early aughts positioned them as one of the Dallas greats, offer up a dissection of their own journey with “Oh Stars.” “I keep finding I’ve been winding up, winding up,” frontman John Dufilho muses. Guitars and drums froth around his voice like crisp waves, underlining a new lease on life and seizing every single moment like its their last.
“Oh Stars” samples the band brand new record, Time Well Wasted, out everywhere February 12.
