Review: The Iddy Biddies explore ‘The World Inside’ a sea of lies and hate with second album
The indie band confronts the world with its second album.
The Iddy Biddies wraps the listener in a comfy fleece blanket. Their melodies go down smooth like an amber glass of whiskey, tingling the lips before warming up the extremities. Their second album, The World Inside, feels both earnest and reflective. Flecks of guitar wash over you with blistering waves, as they peel back the layers of existence to expose raw humanity percolating underneath. The chaos of the modern world seems to melt away, with a warmth and calming sensation that bestows upon the listener a moment of deep thought. 11 songs explore the anxieties of the barrage of headline static, if even for a time.
The opening track, “It’s Just a Show,” encourages the listener to disregard the meticulously staged world and turn inward to begin the journey of inner work necessary to push forward. “Follow You Anywhere” jangles with rootsy instruments, whereas “Love Wonders Why” echoes with stunning reverb that’s equally haunting and muscular. Vocals beckon from across a sea of curling smoke. It’s suffocating, yet immediately freeing. The band etches the record with life’s most mundane moments, demonstrating that existence is not always about bursts of excitement and a ferocious hunger to live, but about the everyday flashes that truly reveal who you are.
“Strange World” emerges as an almost mystical musical experience. But beneath those groovy sonic layers, there beats a downtrodden heart aching to be heard. “You told me he just likes to shout / So there’s no need to fuss about,” sings singer and songwriter Gene Wallenstein. “But I don’t see any way for you to live in fear and stay.” His words ring like an alarm, and in 2025, it’s a scathing indictment of a hate-fueled, soul-crushing leadership that pushes people to the edge. Other moments, such as “Words You Like to Say,” uncage a venomous assault on the circling drain of lies that seems to permeate every facet of our lives.
The World Inside serves as a crucial roadmap for rediscovering the humanity that has vanished from the world. In truth, it’s a statement piece that should not go overlooked. The Iddy Biddies deliver a stylistic album wrapped around thorny lyrics that are essentially calls to action before it’s far too late.
The Iddy Biddies unleash The World Inside on March 6, 2026.
