Taste Test: The Reeves Brothers scuff up some dust with ‘100 Proof Honky-Tonk’
The stone-cold country band slip into the saloon.

If you’re in need a nice cold tall glass of country, The Reeves Brothers shake and twist across the honky-tonk dancefloor. With their song “100 Proof Honky-Tonk,” the saddle-blazin’ opener to their new album, they soak the listener in lonesome bar-top blues. “Give me a straight-up cheatin’ song,” frontman Matt Reeves pleads. “And don’t serve it on the rocks / Becasuse I live there way too long.” Dazzling piano keys slap in waves, and Reeves’ voice both wallows in fresh pain and seeks refuge in the saloon lights. It’s a boogie woogie kind of tune that’ll surely scuff up plenty of dust.
“100 Proof Honky-Tonk” samples the band’s new album, The Last Honky-Tonk, out everywhere now.
