Taste Test: The Roseline takes things back to basics with ‘Seven Hundred Second Chances’
The folk band with the comforting vintage vibe
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
The Roseline’s sound is comforting, with the band’s standard ensemble of acoustic and electric guitars, drums, piano, mandolin and vocals blended into glorious harmony. The lyrics are less comforting, facing up to the stark reality of human corruptibility: “All of us are gonna go bad/like a peach that bruises in a paper bag”. And yet The Roseline manages to keep hold of a hopeful sense of optimism. “I am a dreamer” the singer professes, as he sings about the “seven hundred second chances in consecutive years”. This folk/Americana song adds in elements of rock that culminates in a soulful electric guitar solo. This song is a tasteful mix of old and new, acoustic and electric, cynicism and hope.
