Taste Test: TheThread bury the past with new song, ‘King of Me’
The Americana duo light a match to a destructive past.

“Life will bend you till it hurts / Love will melt you till it burns,” blazing Americana duo TheThread attest with their new song. “King of Me” shovels deep into dark matters, unearthing themes of domestic violence and divorce, and the emotional vines seem almost suffocating. Musicians and vocalists Caitlin Nicol-Thomas and Tyler Boydstun plant their feet in the eye of the storm, reliving moments from their past, and reclaim their dignity and self-worth with impressive strength. “I’m not going down,” they bellow. Their voices are like smoke rings, rising from the rubble and ruin of a past life long gone, and while there is a heaviness to the lyric, the throaty wails tease a warrior-like determination. It’s almost an act of retaliation and finally burying the past six-feet under once and for all.
“King of Me” samples the duo’s new album, House on Fire, slated for August 28.

Love the fiddle. I checked out the whole song for the lyrics and they’re smoking good!
