Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

Only when we stomach the bad can we truly appreciate the good. It’s a mixed elixir ⏤ tasting both bitter and sweet, tangy and smooth, zesty and bland. Re-issuing their previous single, Arkansas folk-rock pair Troubaduo are unwavering in their resilience, having earned their scars on the road and pushed through every spiraling down. “We Carry On,” which originally appeared on their 2011 studio record, We Live in the Gray, is steeped in ’90s-sloshed indie-rock and a heavy helping of deep-fried southern rock. Bryson VanCleve’s vocals bob atop a righteously anthemic pond of classic electric guitars and drum work, with Jill Marie VanCleve’s harmony slapping against the production in a delicate balance. “Open up your eyes / I’ll be there for you in your time of need,” sings Bryson, hammering home the song’s ornately-structured rise. The message potently wafts right into the senses, and you’d be hard press not to pump your fists in agreement.
