Taste Test: Vaughan climbs out of despair with ‘Youngest at the Party’
The queer artist reveals a history of addiction to chem-sex.

Vaughan doesn’t remember exactly how it happened. As the queer pop artist attests with new single “Youngest at the Party,” he found himself addicted to chem-sex and seeking out varioius playmates, most much older than him. One night, he looked around and wondered how it all devolved this way. He doesn’t have an answer, but “Youngest” aches with all the mental anguish he felt, partially in a daze, and eventually sees him climbing back out of the bottom. “I’m an animal lately,” he sings. His words dissipate into the tangle of bodies, none of which he knows, and only the sun can possibly break the cycle. The accompany visual, directed by Flower Up (Alex Evans), immerses the viewer right into the moment, flushed with a blood-red and his detached presence, as everyone around him spirals further into the abyss.
“Youngest at the Party” anchors Vaughan’s new EP, I WAS, out everywhere now.
