We’re all just empty and exhausted carcasses this year. As Avenue Beat would say, “Lowkey, f*ck 2020.” Thankfully, we have songs like Wes Reeve‘s “Cup of Tea,” a honeyed toddy that slips into the brain. “Sometimes I get anxious I don’t even know why / Sometimes I feel happy and I still want to cry,” she sings, a delicate squeak to her voice. Her works crackle and roast over a fiery pit of folk-pop delight. When the flames extinguish into ashy soot, leaving only her voice intact, there are a few embers still burning bright as can be.
