Taste Test: Whiskerman dare to enter the all-consuming ‘Belly of the Beast’
The rock band go fairy-tale gothic in a spellbinding new video.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
2019’s Midsommar, an unsettling thriller cast in the bright of day, has nothing on Whiskerman‘s new video. “Belly of the Beast” is ferocious, thrashing around in drug-induced psychedelia and a cult leader’s appetite for obedience. Frontman Graham Patzner offers an unhinged performance, and his eyes will scrape your skin and burrow right into your soul. “Give me a taste,” he sings into fuzzy-headed electric guitars and a disturbing sequence that spins and spins and leaves you utterly exhausted, nauseous, and forever changed. “It’s in my blood / In my liver / An old school sinner,” he later howls, a ravenous wolf prowling for his next prey. It’s a grim fairy tale – and might make an apt pairing to Gretel & Hansel this weekend.
“Belly of the Beast” primes the band’s new album, Kingdom Illusions, out everywhere March 6.
