Taste Test: Wild the Coyote takes us into outlaw country with ‘Under the Weather’
Coyote mixes blues, rock and punk to create a gritty dark style all his own

Every so often, you come across a truly unique sound that fills a gap in your musical life you never knew you had. Wild the Coyote is one such band, with a pounding bass drum that carries the steel-string-sounds of the guitars. With a voice that’s deep, gritty but well-worn, Coyote’s vocals evoke images of dusty roads and vast desert landscapes. “Under the Weather” is a story of a man battling drug and alcohol addiction, and the repercussions this has on the people around him. “I know I told you I’d get better/Can’t seem to handle all of the pressure/Behind closed doors, under the weather/All of these days seem more like terror”. Each line lands like a gut punch, emotionally raw and holding nothing back. Coyote wrote the song after witnessing a family argument over drugs and alcohol. “I’ve had my share of troubled run-ins with alcohol, so I went and wrote a song that hurt me to the core” he explained.
