Premiere: Will Payne Harrison & liv. conjure a ‘Full Moon Fever’ in new video
The duo’s collaborative video is brooding and affecting.
Something wicked this way comes — in the form of Will Payne Harrison and liv.‘s “Full Moon Fever.” Acoustics shake and rattle, a spooky elixir that is sure to run the blood cold. “You’re like a full moon fever on Friday the 13th,” the duo sings, twisting their vocals together. “You’re finding new ways that you can curse me / You’ve got your dagger out, ready to draw some blood.”
Written by Harrison, “Full Moon Fever” is ripe for the Halloween season, just as the summer begins to wane and September looms ever-present. The pain the two feel rends their hearts in two, leaving veins pulsing and bleeding. “Time slips away, now the night is day / But you still find new ways to creep in,” sings liv. in the second verse. “Drinking whiskey neat in these dirty sheets in the daylight, you’ve got me weeping.”
Originally, the haunted song was intended for Harrison’s most recent record, 2022’s Tioga Titan, but it “didn’t seem to fit quite right with the rest,” he tells B-Sides & Badlands. “After getting to know liv., I knew that I wanted to do a duet with her. I felt like this song bridged the gap between our styles really well and she really brought the song to life in a way that I don’t think I could have achieved with anyone else.”
And the feeling is mutual. “Will and I have such a good rapport. He’s one of my favorite people in the whole world. When he asked me to record this song with him, it was an instantaneous ‘yes!'” says liv. “I remember sitting in my car replaying the demo he sent me over and over and over again; I just loved it so much. I had a ton of fun recording this with him during our run together in Texas. Being able to feed off of each other in this song and then in the video was a blast. We had a lot of laughs together throughout the process. There’s nothing quite like making music with your good friend.”
In the accompanying visual, helmed by director of photography Matt Moran, the duo goes hard for moody and introspective. Shot in black ‘n white, the clip pours out the emotions like shots of whiskey. “I must be a glutton for all this pain I have / ‘Cause I keep coming back for more,” they continue, unfurling their heartstrings. “It’s finally time to find the right words to say / So I can slip away for the door.”
