Taste Test: WiseTale rallies himself to remedy a guarded heart with ‘Fix’

The indie-rock performer goes for a neon-strewn approach in a new emotional video.

Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

It’s OK to guard your heart sometimes – but it can frequently come at a heavy price: disconnection. Relationships and friendships and all kinds of -ships will flounder and sink to a murky oceanic bottom. Indie-rock singer-songwriter WiseTale (real name Jacob Deaton) undergoes a surgical (and quite metaphorical) removal of his heart – carving out the misery caking in his chest on a song called “Fix.” Amidst the downward relationship spiral, feeling a lover gliding promptly away from him into an outer orbit, he pounded his brain for what had gone so awry. “This is your final curtain call / The chance of a lifetime,” he sings. His words, paired with neon-smothered visual, shot and filmed by Paul Warner (of Shadow Walk Films), are needle point jabs to his entire world. It doesn’t necessarily all come crashing down, but it might as well have.
