Taste Test: Yorxe leans into disturbingly cool aesthetic on new song, ‘Like Me’
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
We all want to say what’s honestly on our mind, but most of us just… don’t. That feeling gnaws at the brain, zapping the base of the skull, and it swells and swells and swells until you explode. Alt-pop singer-songwriter Yorxe bottles up that notion with her elecrifyingly haunting new song. With “Like Me,” throbbing like a skeleton inside its coffin, she leans into the Billie Eilish playbook, texturing on her own vocal mold. “Could you speak like me / Gotta streak like me,” she croaks, slippery and spooky imagery filling the room. “Let your head roll / Down the street like me.” Rythmic crunches glow as candlelight around her, and soon, you’ll be so hypnotized, you won’t be able to move.
