David Amezcua, the mastermind behind ZIMINY, has never been so vulnerable before. Where this summer’s banger “Summer Nights” stuck like gum to the eardrums, his new entry “Venom” peels back the curtain on marital strife with a stark piano performance. “My bite’s venom / I’m coming undone / She’s dying alone / And all I see is red,” he confides. He pulls from a very visceral and heated place, greatly inspired by a fight he had with his wife. In the aftermath, he asked for forgiveness, and the song shocked through his head like a lightning bolt. Pen in hand, he scrawled out this ode to transparency and forgiveness, never skimping on the truth of his role in the blow-up.
“Venom” samples his brand new album, Love Language, out everywhere now.
