Taste Test: AERI’s psychedelic single reflects on the past in ‘What If’
The Brooklyn based singer teams up to produce a unique indie-pop masterpiece

Looking back is always painful when you’ve got out of a relationship. AERI’s breakout song ‘What If’ perfectly captures the dark pensive torture of wishing things had gone right. “What if we started over/What if I made you fall in love with me/All over again” AERI pleads. The stripped down song bleeds with echoing synth, simple guitar, electronic effects and angelic vocals. AERI’s music video is co-created with movement artist Marie Lloyd Paspe and directed by Chan Lin, and the trio are no strangers to embracing their true selves as queer Asian artists. This uniqueness bleeds over into AERI’s indie-pop style and the trio’s music video, allowing them to create a masterpiece of painful silences, raw emotion and a song that isn’t afraid to bare its soul.
