Taste Test: Alex Rv Phillips is only ‘Passing Through’
The folksy performer broods on the temporary nature of life on a new song.
Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
Life is a cobblestone of transitory phases. Any particular day is temporary and soon fades like the sun poking below the horizon. We are, in essence, ghostly figures shapeshifting between elements. London’s folksy storyteller Alex Rv Phillips buries his guitar in the sands of time, picking through remnants of what is present and before him in the moment. “Passing Through,” which begins stripped back as an acoustic stunner, ebbs and flows as the tides foaming at his feet. “We’re only just passing through,” he sings. Coming off a year and a half of cross-crossing the European continent, and finding himself settling in Dresden, Germany, he dissects his current state with a voice that soon proves to be booming and rips the clouds from the sky. The mountains then tumble to their proverbial knees for an intimate confessional that embodies the entirety of the human experience.
“Passing Through” is only Phillips’ second-ever official single release.
