Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

Pop music desperately needs The Magnettes, a Swedish trio that delivers shockingly poetic and ambitious treats up on a silver platter. A vogue-punk fairytale, bedazzled with slurpy pop juice, the band’s new entry “Shakes” (song review here) is catapulted across the stratosphere with a visual that blends aesthetics in bite-sized vignettes. The music video exudes a Madonna-worthy sensibility, and lead singers Rebecka Digervall and Sanna Kalla not only command the screen with enough enticing quirk that you’ll never be the same again but their fixations on skirting genre lines is remarkable. Then, producer and bandmate Tomas Bäcklund Tuneström’s turns and dips in the production are just altogether fizzy and sends you into a cataclysmic high. Together, the song and video is a, quite simply, a sight to behold.

“Shakes” is yet more proof the world should bow down to The Magnettes.
