A song like Alicia Blue‘s “Star Maps” could not have arrived at a more apt time. Its timeliness in self-reflection, analyzing uncomfortable truths buried deep in our core, which we’ve perhaps overlooked for far too long, pierces the skull. “There’s always a high that leads to the low,” she admits to herself. In turning what she calls a “flashlight” to her “guts,” as she states, those inner skirmishes are yanked into the light, exposed for what they are. Her soft, blue-jay vocal is lilting, taking your hand and guiding you along for the journey. Maybe you too can reassess those things you’ve long tucked away.
“Star Maps” is lifted from Blue’s new album, Bravebird, out everywhere now.
