Taste Test: Harrison Kipner doesn’t kowtow with his new song, ‘My Style’

The indie singer-songwriter delivers a refreshing bite of lo-fi bedroom pop.

Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

Bottling up all the sting and hurt, singer-songwriter Harrison Kipner‘s “My Style” fits in the side-pocket of lo-fi bedroom angst, nailed through with indie rock rivets and pop smoothness. “You do your thing / And I’ll do mine / I know you think I’m not going to make it,” he nearly shouts in a spoken word, mid-song. It’s a necessary electroshock of energy, the rest of the song running cool, muted, and languid. But the sharpness comes with his vocal, never kowtowing to his detractors; rather, he replants his feet and gazes squarely in their eyes.
