A ton of pressure comes with a debut single. For his first outing, Andrew Rodgers steps out on his own with “Last Man Standing” and proves his worth. Over a rollicking, folk-rock current, Rodgers regales a tale about an infantry soldier during World War II, separated from his family and just trying to do the right thing. “With a rifle in my hand, I was just old enough to be a man / But I, I was scared like a child,” he sings. “I had a picture of you, you were looking at me the way you do / And I, oh I said to myself that I’ll be the last man standing.” His words are explosive, displaying his resilience literally in the face of war. His voice is unwavering, potent, and piercing. “Last Man Standing” is an impressive debut, that’s to be sure.
