Ian Abel‘s new song “Drowning” is a sticky vat of sleaze. It’s seductive, whipping the senses into an absolute frenzy. “You got me gasping for breath, damn,” he sings, as he laps his tongue over the melody. “I wanna bath in your sweat, damn / Don’t stop / You’re in too deep / X marks the spot.” Abel switches between spoken words in the verses, haunted by background vocals, before plummeting into a grimy melody that numbs the fingertips. If you don’t drown in Abel’s vocal serum, you’re not really listening then, are you? Sit back and succumb to the high.
