Welcome to Boombox Blitz, an artist spotlight series showcasing overlooked singers, songwriters and musicians who are quietly taking over the world.

When Cupid engages his cedar-carved arrows, he rarely misses. He’s a marksman of the highest order, and the finely-razored edge, unwavering on its final destination, penetrates through bone and skin and brick walls, the metaphorical kind, of course. The impact casts two lovers in a puff of glittering smoke, so if you’ve ever been in entangled in the head-over-heels kind of romance, you’ll understand the charm. In the case of so-Cal dream-pop outfit Andy’s Room, who also culls together classic indie-rock with a glowing sheen, the four-piece dwell upon intoxicating sweetness with their new song “Always You.” Encased in a florescent warmth, owed in large part to frontman Matt McCarthy’s enveloping, wool-knit vocal, the song is bright and lush and strikes at an unforgettable core.

“Everything I want is here with you / When I close my eyes and daydream about something new / It’s always with you,” sings McCarthy, who glides across a practically acoustic-only production. Electronics whirl behind him to build a towering pop moment, an appropriate kick-off to the new year. He continues, turning on himself and his glaring flaws, “Should have sent a postcard / Should have called you back / Now I’m getting swallowed whole by all the things I lack / And I deserve that / I don’t deserve you…”

“Always You” trips along a piercing guitar, a thick potion of synths motioning the band forward. Alongside Garrett Blodgett, Austin Wheeler and Devin Trott, Andy’s Room focus in on the collective and their boundless commitment with the accompanying visual, compiled by Tommy English. The clip is ripe for Instagram culture, sometimes fizzy and plastered with vivid filters and colors, choices to augment the undeniable dreamscape. “Sonically, we tried some new things, but it represents us musically as far as the stuff we like listen to, and we are extremely proud of it,” McCarthy explains.

“Always You” is a primer to the band’s forthcoming debut long player.
