Taste Test: Bad Flamingo sharpen their talons with a ‘Dead Man’s Hand’

The alternative (?) duo take a ride through the desert with a funky new tune.

Bad Flamingo are two of the most bedeviling, genre-melters rising on the scene. Are they Americana? Blues? Rock? Folk? Alternative? Yes. On their glitchy new song “Dead Man’s Hand,” complete with muddy stomping and pings of empty shotgun shell casings for good measure, they suck you into a Quentin Tarantino hellscape and leave you for dead on the side of the road. “I saw a lone tree with a murder of crows,” they set the scene with unsettling detail from the start. And that’s just their style. Their songwriting is often long-toothed and jagged, allowing their breathiness to soak right into you. This is no different.
