There are times in a relationship, probably very early on, when miscommunication runs rampant. You keep hitting brick walls, and you may not even realize why at the beginning. Indie-pop singer-songwriter Christian French muses on the moment he realized a relationship was quickly deteriorating and turned back before it was too late. “make or break up” spins with a rooted acoustic guitar at its base, before flying with acrobatic stylistic flips into the air, as he confronts his own flaws with communication and decides to be honest. “I’ll try and I’ll try and I’ll try not to hurt you,” he sings. He vows to be real and honest, even if it stings, pleading with a lover to do the same. “Can’t deny that it’s hard / But we both gotta learn to.” As the old saying goes: honesty really is the best policy.
