Mental health can manifest in countless ways. For some, it’s through shots of uncontrollable anger or sorrow. Others might experience complete numbness, ripping through the body and into the fingertips. It’s an arduous journey to reclaim yourself and recenter the brain. Folk singer-songwriter Joshua Hyslop comes clean about his own turmoils and seeks to rediscover a sense of calm. With “Let It Rain,” he embraces the storms, as we all should, but never lets them totally consume him like before. “Let my heartbeat open wide through the storm,” he sings. His words flutter up and out of his lungs, as if he is finally letting all the angst and darkness escape from him. Hyslop’s voice is angelic in tone yet weighs you down in performance. He casts such a trance, you won’t be able to look away.
