Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones
Power of femininity is raw and real. Women and woman-identifying individuals are finally having their voices heard – and we still have miles to go in dismantling the patriarchy. Electro-pop force Daniella Mason‘s new song and video “Woman Lover Powerful” is a colorful blast of celebration, decorated with guttural, instinctual emotional shading that gives breadth and urgency. “I know the power I have as a woman,” she confides, drawing the listener into her rage-directed sphere. Waves of synth soundscapes mingle with earthquake drums, underscoring the song as an animalistic anthem. “Boss when I’m working / Lover when I’m loving / I know…” she shrugs her shoulders to a system hellbent against her and basically every single woman on earth. In the rose-tinted visual, directed/edited by Ezra Cohen, she gathers her closest lady comrades – Alanna Royale, Cam, Sinclair, Nightbirde, Robyn Harris, Jamiah, and Bantug (Jacqueline Day and Carine Abraham appear on backing vocals) – for a ritualistic prayer circle. A stark white mannequin plants in the middle, and they each take turns seemingly basking in an unseen strength to eventually rise triumphant.
“Woman Lover Powerful” is the lead-off to Mason’s new EP, Physical State, expected everywhere in 2020.
