Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

Cancer is a poison that seeps into lives sometimes quite undetected. When it makes its presence known, it sinks its fangs and rips the body to shreds. In the aftermath of his new album, Give Me Some Time, one of the year’s most emotionally rich releases, singer-songwriter Matthew Pinder links up two of the cuts, “Before the Fall” and “After the All,” into an elegant and fragile visual piece. Titled “The Fall,” written from the perspective of his mother, who passed away from cancer, the performance (now featuring Judah Tha Lion) puts the soul and heart of humanity through the wash. Pinder wrings out every possible emotion, bleeding colors fading into muted pastels, and its only ghosts of the past that remain. “We knew it was coming; we knew she would die. But knowing what was to come only amplified the fear,” he says of the video, directed by Noah Tidmore. It’s a performance of a lifetime.

Give Me Some Time is out everywhere now.
