Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstone

Envy will make you do some wild things. Branded with a punkish, ’90s alt-rock attitude, Drama Dolls suck up their angsty feelings, chew ’em up, and spit out the remains with their volcanic new tune. With “Favorite Girl,” the three-piece let the venom first fall off their tongues in rapid fashion, situating their infatuation smack center of a penetrating gaze. “I want to be your favorite girl / I want to be the one you like the most / I want to be the girl in the best world,” they plead. Before you know it, the song quickly swells, explodes, and oozes Bangles-like starbursts all over the place. It’s not only firmly planted in the past but very much of the present, a raucous swagger that’s so contagious you’ll be stricken where you stand.

“Favorite Girl” anchors the band’s new EP, the double-sided Over The Shoulder / Boulder Holder, expected later this year.
