Another school shooting flashed across the news. Emily Nicole Green was weary to all the senseless bloodshed. And to process and cope, she wrote “It’s Gonna Be Okay,” a torch song that offers encouragement and hope in the darkest of times. “Running fast to the next disaster,” she sings in the opening line. Its razor-sharp edge pierces straight to the heart and sets up the song’s immense, throbbing heart. “Wrong and right, seeping into the conversation / Black and white, drains the colors from the walls / Another night, when nobody finds salvation,” she heaves. Her truth rings like an alarm, and despite the smokey haze, a light shines in the distance. It will be okay… one day.
